THIS WEEK IN THE WORLD: WEEK 27

IMG_2399.jpg

Hello, and Happy 4th of July from the Peak District! While it certainly isn’t the most patriotic place to celebrate America, I’m excited to be here for a quick weekend trip to see some of the natural beauty of this region (and to finally visit the famous Chatsworth House after wanting to for years!) Chatsworth has been in the Cavendish family for 16+ generations, and is rich in history. I’m currently reading a short memoir titled “School Days at Chatsworth” which details a period during the war when it was even converted into a boarding school. In more recent years, Chatsworth was where the 2005 “Pride and Prejudice” was filmed (it was Pemberley, Mr. Darcy’s home). It’s an absolutely stunning estate with so much fascinating history- I highly recommend making the trip up here if you can!

If you’re new here, ‘This Week in the World’ is a weekly recap of content ranging from around the globe. My hope is that each week, no matter where you are in the world, you’ll be able to feel more connected to it: through news, travel, food & wine… really, anything that appeals to the culturally curious. Let’s dive into the content I sourced for week 27.

AROUND THE WORLD

  • There are four teams remaining in the Euros. This week, England will play Denmark and then Italy will play Spain. The winners of those two games will go head to head in the final. Personally, I am hoping Italy and England go all the way (as I’ll be in Italy during the finals!)

WEEKLY FAVORITES

  • FAVORITE LISTEN: I recently discovered “The Argument”, a podcast that showcases open minded debates and facilitates critical thinking. I highly recommend if you enjoy stretching your worldview and hearing multiple points of view.

  • FAVORITE FIND: I have been wanting a bust for my mantle for a while, but wanted to get one with some meaning and not just order any one from a major retailer. So at Chatsworth, I treated myself to this Veiled Vestal Virgin bust. You can actually order it online from the Chatsworth gift shop if you’d rather support a historic home than a big box retailer (plus, it’s also a nice piece if you’re a “Pride and Prejudice” film lover). I love that anytime I see it in my home I’ll remember my trip to Chatsworth!

This Week in the World: Week 26

It’s been so nice being able to enjoy London again this week! After being away in Greece, then quarantining upon return, I’ve been soaking up my city as much as I can the past few days (before I head off again soon). I also was able to get my second dose of the COVID vaccine this weekend, and it feels SO good to finally be fully jabbed!

TRAVEL NEWS, UPDATES + INSPIRATION

  • Italy is now open to all Americans! I know so many of us are excited about this. I am heading there in a couple weeks for a while and can’t wait to get back to some of my favorite places and to check in with friends/vendors I haven’t seen in so long now!

AROUND THE WORLD

WEEKLY FAVORITES

  • THIS FACE MASK has been a long time favorite for de-puffing. I keep mine in the fridge and will leave it on my face and neck for over an hour if I’ve recently flown or eaten anything particularly salty and feel puffy. It is wonderful!

  • I have loved listening to THIS PLAYLIST while working or going for walks with my coffee in the morning lately. It’s so calming and a lovely soundtrack to have on in the background!

  • THIS ARTICLE on how Amazon Prime exacerbates consumer culture is worth a read…

This Week in the World: Week 25

IMG_1001.JPG

Hello from rainy London (contrary to the photo of Santorini above!) Today is my last day of having to quarantine at home after my trip to Greece, so the last 5 days have been spent cozy on the couch catching up on tons of work, watching TV and getting some much needed rest. I thought having to quarantine would give me PTSD after a year of so much time spent in lockdown, but it was oddly satisfying taking it so slow after a non-stop trip. It goes to show I’m definitely out of practice traveling as full-on as I used to!

AROUND THE WORLD

WEEKLY FAVORITES

  • FAVORITE FILM: We watched Pixar’s “Luca” on Friday night and it was so heartwarming! Pixar always does such a good job creating feel-good films, and this one was especially enjoyable given the Italian Riviera backdrop.

  • FAVORITE SHOW: We also binged the entire second season of “Lupin” last night (only 5 episodes to be fair!) and really enjoyed it. It’s also great for travel lovers, as the location is set in Paris.

  • FAVORITE FIND: I bought this Sézane top a month or so ago but I have been wearing it out lately. It’s a great basic that can be worn as a layer, but the scallop detailing makes it interesting enough to wear on it’s own too— I love it!
